25 years in the making, and 6 months behind schedule, but the Memorial to the Abolition of Slavery finally opened in Nantes, Sunday the 25th of March, following the International Slavery Museum of Liverpool that opened in 2007. Nestled between the bridges of Anne de Bretagne and Victor Schoelcher (the French politician behind the 1848 Abolition of Slavery Decree), this memorial occupies a symbolic position within the city on the Quai de la Fosse.
